Welcome back!
You've completed the Incident Response Fundamentals workshop. All handouts live on these pages, which you can refer to when you want to review the concepts like STOP and blameless communication below, and use the resources provided to guide you through the various phases of incident management.
Also, join our Discord community that we've created for peer support, and follow us to get relevant posts and updates.
This is a living page and will be updated with more material as we develop it.
Concepts
S.T.O.P.
Before anything else, when something happens:
- Stand still — don't act on the first thing you see.
- Take it all in — get the full picture before committing.
- Observe — check what's actually happening, not what's assumed.
- Proceed — and only then, act, now that the picture is clear.
Next time something — anything — happens around you, try to remember STOP. An important conversation, a glass dropped on the floor, a strange error message: anything counts.
Communication: Kind, Clear, Honest
Remember to be:
- Kind — am I assigning blame? Am I loading my emotions onto someone else? Am I considerate of their state?
- Clear — am I using more complex words than necessary? Does the team share the precise meaning of the specialised words I use?
- Honest — am I holding back information out of fear?
Blame slows the response down. Kind and clear communication makes people more likely to surface bad news early.

Waffle House Index
We mentioned the Waffle House Index in the workshop. Read more about it here or watch this video from Half As Interesting. The company is an excellent example of continuity planning done right.
